Discipleship

Journey to Belonging

First United Methodist Church takes seriously the United Methodist Church’s mission statement, to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. This epitomizes the Great Commission given by Jesus to His disciples. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20.

We understand a disciple to be someone whose life is being transformed by the love of God the Parent, through the power of the Holy Spirit by following the way of Jesus Christ. Our journey of discipleship is never finished, and everyone’s path will be different.

Discipleship is belonging. Whether new to First Church and looking for a way to form relationships or a long-standing member looking to deepen your spiritual faith, the Journey to Belonging diagram provides a useful tool to navigate the next steps. It is meant to encourage and motivate us to put into practice our church’s mission statement to inspire hope, grow in faith, and serve with joy.

Please take a moment to study the diagram to see where you are on your spiritual journey. First Church is here to help you to take: the first step and subsequent steps to discipleship. The diagram and the link to the brochure below highlight many of the opportunities available to learn, connect, and serve. Prayerfully consider your next step to discover and experience God’s love for you.
